Make room for leisure
Interior decoration or décor is the art of decorating a room so that it is attractive, easy to use and functions well with the existing architecture. Its goal is to provide a certain "feel" for the room. The space must represent an essence of the dweller, vibrate with the vibes, glow with the spark and dance to the tunes of its dweller. Here are some people who have made their places the exact replicas of their inner selves and live every moment rather than merely surviving.
In a metro where a square inch of land costs huge amounts, the crunch for available space to build a home of your dreams always dims the spirits. But not for Sujit Burman; he has managed to build an artificial climbing panel wall in the meagre space that his home provides.
Located in a posh locality in Delhi, his residence, not surprisingly, has become a climbing haven for the climbing enthusiasts in and around Delhi. Two out the four walls and a part of the ceiling that his humble residence provides are occupied with some climbing panels mounted with colourful epoxy holds and some other climbing fixtures. Aiding Bong in his endeavours is his younger brother Mr. Premjit Burman, who is a qualified architect and has been instrumental in charting out the intricate design of their modest residence to merge with the undying spirits of his elder brother.
The residence is in a way designed to be a duplex. A flight of wooden stairs leads to the upper alley, which serves as a dual purpose place, a tech-room with all sorts of wiring and stuff scattered around to work up the computers during the day and also as a bedroom after dark.
Mrs. Reema Kulkarni has changed residence. The area has changed. The location, the people around her, the surroundings and everything else have changed. The only thing that remains unchanged is the ground-floor location adorned with beautiful ornamental and flowering plants. Interior landscaping has been a passion for Mrs. Kulkarni and she has made it a point to keep it alive.
Duplicating Mother Nature indoors for our plant friends is more complicated than people often realise. Here are some tips from her in order to increase your chances of success at creating a delightful indoor garden.
A ground floor residence allows her the 'extension' of her courtyard for the purpose of gardening. Having altered the plumbing layout to provide her plants with a sure source of water and sprinkler throughout, she has also maintained an open gallery for uninhibited ventilation and sunlight for an effective photosynthetic process. A room thermometer keeps an eye on the temperature to ensure the appropriate temperature range. Good lighting can be obtained from fluorescent lamps, single or multiple.
To ensure proper flow of air and to regulate temperature, an oscillating fan in the vicinity of the indoor garden serves well. Besides altering the plumbing layout and designing the construction for ventilation and sunlight, proper nourishment with adequate fertilisers and compost is an important criterion to be looked upon. Pest and weed control is of utmost importance to ensure the health of your garden, she stresses. Various pesticides and weed control devices are available to ensure adequate monitoring. With these tips, a green revolution begins! A structured layout and planned designing of the space goes in nurturing these passions.
Sericulture (Silkworm breeding) enthusiasts have mulberry plantations occupying the nooks and corners of their homes for the silkworms to feed and thrive on. Photographers have allotted space for darkrooms in their residential backyards for developing and processing photographs. The list of these passion driven enthusiasts goes on and on and along with it goes inventive interiors and innovative designing of their dwellings.
